In my home I have thermostats and at least a dozen automated light switches. After using Google Assistant for a long time I ended up with an Ecobee thermostat that uses Alexa.
There's simply no contest.
Winner: Alexa
Why: Reliability and speed
At the time of this writing (July, 2023) Google Assistant has become unreliable and was always slow on my phone. You have to wait, maybe it beeps at you, maybe it doesn't. Maybe it's talking to a BT device still.
It has also become notoriously unreliable at night (EST). It has a really bad habit of working the first time and then failing repeatedly after that.
Alexa by comparison feels like a race car. You just talk, no pausing:
You: Alexa, turn off the living room fan.
Alexa: OK!
Honestly you have no idea how slow and clunky Google Assistant is unless you switch, and you should.
